SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team rebounded from a flat performance Friday with a solid effort Sunday, but No. 13 Cal State Stanislaus rode a pair of second half goals to a 2–0 win at the Otter Sports Complex.

CSUMB (2–5–0 overall, 1–5–0 CCAA) owned the better of play for much for the first half, but Stanislaus (5–1–2, 4–1–1) took control early in the second half, scoring just four minutes in to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish.

“We competed and grew as a team today. It is fun to watch the team play as hard as they did,” said Otter Head Coach Erin Reinke. “We were better in the offensive third than on Friday. If we could have scored one of our chances, we were right there with one of the best teams in our conference.”

The match proved to be a tale of two halves. Stanislaus out–shot CSUMB 3–2 in the first period, though the Otters owned a slight territorial advantage in the period as the Warriors tried and failed to connect by playing the ball over the top for much of the first 45 minutes. Stanislaus kicked it up a notch after the interval, however, and a long ball over the top got things started.

Alexia Poon sent a ball over the Otter backline that Warrior speedster Karenee Demery ran onto. Otter goalkeeper Kendra Gillio (San Jose/Valley Christian HS), who played a solid game in net, had no chance against Demery's well–executed chip and Stanislaus went ahead.

The pace picked up from that point with both teams creating opportunities. The Otters actually put more shots on frame in the second half, 4–2, but Stanislaus took the game by the throat just past the hour when Demery sent a cross onto the doorstep and Marissa Dunaway had but a tap to earn her second goal of the season.

The Otters will look to bounce back into the win column next week when they hit the road for a pair of game at CCAA South Division foes UC San Diego and Cal State San Bernardino Friday and Sunday.
