SEASIDE, Calif. — The Chico State women's soccer team played a near flawless match and Cal State Monterey Bay couldn't keep pace as the Wildcats took a 3–0 decision Friday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.
Chico (3–3–1, 3–2–0 CCAA) played an attacking, possession brand of soccer the entire 90 minutes. The Wildcats didn't create a plethora of scoring chances, but they efficiently finished each good chance they created and out–shot the Otters 10–0 for the match.
Chico got the only goal it would need in the 26th minute when Carly Singer buried a free kick from the top of the penalty area. Molly Downtain added a second goal on the hour, tapping in a well executed short corner. Lisa Webster drove the dagger home less than two minutes later when she ran onto a pretty through ball from Scotie Walker.
CSUMB (2–4–0, 1–4–0) will look to regroup when it hosts Cal State Stanislaus Sunday at 11 a.m. in the opener of a men's/women's doubleheader with the Warriors.
Chico State will head to Hayward to take on Cal State East Bay Sunday morning.
