THIS WEEK: The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team hits the road for the third weekend of CCAA play, taking on San Francisco State and Cal Poly Pomona. The Otters will look to pick up a win against the San Francisco State Gators on Friday, Sept 23, then heads to Pomona on Saturday, Sept 24 for a match-up against the Broncos.
LOOKING AHEAD: CSUMB will remain on the road for one more week before coming back to the Kelp Bed. The Otters travel to Chico State on Friday, Sept. 30 and Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, Oct. 1.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH GARRY: “I am excited for another great opportunity to compete in the super tough CCAA. It is our first road trip as a team and a great chance for us to set the tone for how we will play on the road this year.”
NCAA DIG LEADER: CSUMB has turned up the defense intensity this season. For the first time in program history, the Otters are on top in a national statistic category by leading the nation in digs per set (20.4).
SERVING FOR THE RECORD: Senior All-American outside hitter
Rheann Fall tied the CSUMB career record for service aces on Saturday, Sept 10 against Cal State L.A. She has accumulated 119 aces and is even with 2007 graduate Brittany Etchings. Fall is also 65 kills from passing Etchings as the CSUMB kill career record holder.
CCAA LEADERS: In addition to leading the nation and conference in digs, CSUMB is second among CCAA teams in kills per set (13.80) and assists per set (12.93). Senior
Melanie Lashbrook is the CCAA leader in kills per set (4.60) and points per set (5.27). She is also ranked in the nation in both categories; 13th in points per set (4.86) and 17th in kills per set (4.16).
SCOUTING SAN FRANCISCO STATE: The Gators picked up their first conference victory on Saturday, Sept. 17, sweeping the Warriors of Cal State Stanislaus. Top Players: Halimah Oswald (96 kills, 31 blocks) and Megan Johnson (93 kills, 67 digs).
SCOUTING CAL POLY POMONA: The Broncos lone conference victory was a five-set thriller at San Francisco State on Thursday, Sept. 15. Top Players: Karissa Lagmay (87 kills, 96 digs, eight aces).
