SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team fell in its final home match of September to Humboldt State in four sets (19-25, 25-18, 26-24, 31-29) on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Kelp Bed.

Truckee/Tahoe Truckee) led all hitters with a career-high 24 kills and a .465 attack percentage. Senior outside hitter

CSUMB jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set with Lashbrook and Fall each chipping in two kills. The Jacks rallied back to even the score at 6-6 on CSUMB errors. Both teams went on small sprints until senior
Dionna Lucas (
Redlands/Arrowhead Christian Academy) went back to serve two straight aces to force a HSU timeout at 19-15 mark. The Otters coasted to a 25-19 first set victory.
The Otters fell behind early in the second set, 7-4, but kept the Lumberjacks within reach. Back-to-back kills by senior
Lauren Shacklock (
Tehachapi/Cal State Bakersfield) cut the HSU lead to 16-14, but a 9-4 run gave the Lumberjacks a 25-18 second-set win to even the match at a game apiece.
The third set consisted of nine tied scores and seven lead changes with the Otters five set-point chances as the Lumberjacks took a 2-1 lead with a 26-24 win. Lashbrook recorded five kills and three blocks to lead CSUMB. HSU's senior Oceana Matsubu registered eight kills on 19 attempts.
The fourth set proved to be the most dramatic one of the night. The Otters jumped out to a 17-10 lead capped by junior
Lauren Ding's (
Palo Alto/Gunn) kill. A 10-3 run evened the score at 20-20. Neither team took more than a one-point lead until back-to-back kills by HSU's Bailey Kosta and Matsubu gave the Lumberjacks their first conference win of the year with a 31-29 set victory.
Matsubu lead HSU with 20 kills, 20 digs and nine blocks. Alexas Rosendale added 19 kills and 24 digs.
The Otters embark on their first road trip of 2011, heading to San Francisco State on Friday, Sept 23. First serve is 7 p.m.
