SEASIDE, Calif. - Behind the arm of junior #Paul Brock#, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team held on to a 5-3 victory against the Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday afternoon at the Otter Baseball Field.
The Otters have tied a program record for most wins in a single season, improving to 19-25 for the season. CSUMB split the series with the Broncos and are now 16-19 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action.
Junior #Jared DeCastro# and sophomore #Tommy George# each recorded two hits for the Otters. Sophomore #Tyler Young# went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Senior #Ron Duer# racked up his first collegiate hit in his first at bat today.
Junior #Paul Brock# threw 8.2 innings for the win, giving up five hits and three runs while striking out five batters.

Paul Brock threw another gem and we had timely hitting and great defense. Earning a split against a good team, especially after a rough start to the series, is pretty special."
For the first time in the series, the Otters got on the board first with a run in the opening inning. With two outs, DeCastro singled up the middle to score Fujii who drew a leadoff walk.
The Broncos evened the score in the top of the fourth on back-to-back singles by Jordan Whitman and Jenzen Torres.
In the sixth, Young reached on an error by CPP's catcher and advanced to third on George's single through the left side. Sophomore #Tony Hernandez#'s double to left field plated Young. Pinch hitter
Tyler Soto singled to second base to score George to make it 3-1.
The Otters added two more runs in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore #Nolan Murray# ran out a
bobble by CPP's second baseman and went on to steal second and third base. Young's single brought Murray across the plate. George ripped the ball off the right field wall for a triple, scoring Young and extended CSUMB's lead to 5-1.
The Broncos attempted a two-out rally in the top of the ninth with the bases loaded. Stephen Gonzalez's was hit by a pitch to move all the runners 90 feet. Then a dribbler down the first base line advanced all the runners to make it 5-3.
Sophomore #Jake Paolinetti# closed out the game, striking out leadoff batter Mike Santora which ended a 23-game hitting streak for the shortstop.
The Otters close out their home season on Tuesday, May 2 with a make-up game against Sonoma State at 3 p.m. CSUMB leads the series 3-0.
