SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team was unable to overcome Cal Poly Pomona's blazing start and fell to the Broncos, 17-3, in the opening game of a four-game set at the Otter Baseball Field on Thursday afternoon. 
The Otters drop to 17-24 overall and 14-18 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action while the Broncos move up to 27-15, 19-14 in conference play.  
Junior #Danny Nelson# went 3-for-3 at the plate to the lead the Otters. 
The Broncos jumped on CSUMB starter #Scott Tully# quickly, scoring seven runs in the first two innings. 
CPP put up two more runs in the fourth inning before striking gold with seven runs in the sixth. 
The Otters prevented a shutout with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Sophomore #Tony Hernandez# led off with a single and sophomore #Nolan Murray# followed with a double down the left field line.  Hernandez scored on a ground out by senior #Greg Fujii#.  Sophomore 
Ronnie Fhurong connected on a RBI single up the middle and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  After junior #Danny Nelson# drew a walk, both runners moved 90 feet on a wild pitch to set up for pinch hitter Chris LoPiccolo's RBI ground out. 
CPP's final run came off the bat of CCAA home run leader, Travis Taijeron who hit a solo homer over the left center wall to make it 17-3. 
Otters return to the field against the Broncos with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
