CSUMB concludes 2011 season on the road.

Volleyball Game Notes No. 10

THIS WEEK:
In their final matches of their collegiate career, the six Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball seniors look to cap it off with upsets over two nationally ranked teams.  The Otters compete against the top-ranked Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Friday, Nov. 11 before heading farther south to take on the Tritons of No. 15 UC San Diego.

THOUGHTS FROM COACH JODY GARRY: “I am looking forward to our last weekend to continue to finish strong,” said Head Coach Jody Garry. “With six seniors I am confident they will leave everything they have on the court.”

AMONG THE BEST: In digs per set, the Otters are 17th in the nation while remaining steady in second among CCAA teams, averaging 18.09 per set. In kills per set, senior outside hitter Rheann Fall ranks first (3.85 per set) and senior middle hitter Melanie Lashbrook is seventh (3.49 per set) in CCAA matches only. Senior libero Dionna Lucas is sixth in digs (4.29 per set). In blocks per set, Lashbrook also ranks fifth (0.91 per set) while senior middle blocker Tiffaney Riggs is eighth (0.88 per set).

ALL HER OWN:  Head Coach Jody Garry will be saying goodbye to her first CSUMB recruiting class this season. Before last Saturday's match against the Chico State Wildcats, the Otters recognized their six seniors: Monique Sena, Lauren Shacklock, Tiffaney Riggs, Rheann Fall, Melanie Lashbrook and Dionna Lucas

SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO: The top-ranked Coyotes (24-0, 19-0 CCAA) have lost only five sets the entire season, dominating their opponents with ninteen sweeps.  After spending most of the season ranked second or third, CSUSB moved into the No. 1 spot in the national rankings after formerly top ranked Minnesota-Duluth was swept by No. 4 Concordia-St. Paul last week. Top Players: Samantha Middleborn (.488 hitting percentage, 108 blocks), Priscilla Collings (.312 hitting percentage, 22 aces).

SCOUTING UC SAN DIEGO:  The No. 15 Tritons (19-4, 15-4 CCAA) have been moving back up the national rankings after a slight mid-season dip when they went on a three-match losing streak that was capped by the Otters recording a four-set victory on Oct. 7th. Top Players: Katie Condon (232 kills, 3.34 digs per set), Roxanne Brunsting (6.25 assists per set, 26 aces, 3.64 digs per set)
