Otters Fall to No. 15 UCSD to End Season

Senior Rheann Falls leads CSUMB with 15 kills

LA JOLLA, Calif.
– Senior All-American Outside hitter Rheann Fall (Elk Grove/St. Francis) posted a team-high 15 kills, yet the Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team fell to No. 15 UC San Diego on Saturday evening (25-23, 25-18, 25-16) to end the Otters' 2011 campaign.

“It was a tough way to end the season but I am thankful for the time and commitment each player made to this team,” said Head Coach Jody Garry.

With her 13 digs, Fall recorded her 54th career double-double, her 15th this season.  Senior middle blocker Melanie Lashbrook (Truckee/Tahoe Truckee)  tallied seven kills while senior middle blocker Tiffaney Riggs (Vancouver, Wash./Heritage) added three block assists.  Senior libero Dionna Lucas (Redlands/Arrowhead Christian Academy) nabbed a match-high 17 digs.

The Otters jumped out to a 4-1 in the opening set. After the Tritons knotted the set at nine, CSUMB's offense sparked as the Otters went on a 7-2 run capped by a Lashbrook kill. Once again, the Tritons rallied back to even the score at 22's and went on to win 25-23.  Fall registered nine kills and six digs to lead the Otters.

UCSD carried its momentum into the second set to win 25-18 and go up 2-0 going into the long break.  Lashbrook posted three kills and a block assist. 

The Otters came out ready to battle in the third set, taking an 8-5 lead on three straight UCSD attacking errors.  The Tritons quickly regained the lead 10-2 run to cruise to a 25-16 win and the sweep.

UCSD's Katie Condon collected a13 kills and 17 digs while Natasha Wilroy added 11 kills. 

Six Otters played their final match for CSUMB; Rheann Fall, Melanie Lashbrook, Dionna Lucas, Tiffaney Riggs, Monique Sena and Lauren Shacklock.
