Volleyball Game Notes No. 5
THIS WEEK: The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team hosts two Top 20 national ranked teams this weekend at the Kelp Bed. First up, the sixteen-nationally ranked Tritons of UC San Diego on Friday, Oct. 7 followed by a showdown between the Otters and the No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Saturday, Sept. 8. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
LOOKING AHEAD: CSUMB begins the second half of the CCAA season with a trip down south to Cal State L.A. and Cal State Dominguez Hills. Last month, the Otters kicked off the conference season with a sweep over the CSUDH Toros on Friday, Sept 9 and a four-set victory against the Golden Eagles of CSULA on Saturday, Sept. 10.

ADDING ANOTHER RECORD: Senior All-American outside hitter
Rheann Fall became the career record holder in two categories in the span of one week. On Sept. 23, Fall racked up three aces at San Francisco State to pass Brittany Etchings as CSUMB's leader with 126 serve aces. In a five-set heartbreaker at Cal State Stanislaus, Fall leaped over Etching as the career record holder with 1,273 kills.
CCAA LEADERS: Senior
Rheann Fall moved into the top spot in the CCAA with 4.14 kills per set against conference teams after racking up 48 kills in 10 sets this past weekend. Senior middle hitter
Melanie Lashbrook is in fourth with a 3.74 kills per set average. The team is ranked second with a 18.17 digs per set average.
SCOUTING UC SAN DIEGO: The Tritons (10-2, 6-2 CCAA) square off against the No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes on Wednesday, Oct. 5 before making the trip to the Kelp Bed. The Tritons are coming off a four-set loss at Sonoma State, their second CCAA loss this season. Top Players: Hilary Williamson (178 kills, 15 aces), Roxanne Brunsting (156 digs, 16 aces)
SCOUTING CAL STATE SAN BERNARDINO: After a short stint in the No. 2 spot the first week, the Coyotes have held steady ranked No. 3 in the AVCA national poll. CSUSB has dropped only two sets this season, on each to San Francisco State and Cal State Dominguez Hills. Top Players: Samantha Middleborn (3.69 kills per set, 54 blocks, 13 aces), Priscilla Collings (110 kills, 11 aces)
