SEASIDE, Calif. — Years from now, when fans look back on the 2011 Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer season and see six one–goal losses, they'll no doubt think that the Otters were that close to turning the corner. They won't know how right they were.

CSUMB turned in another solid performance on senior day but couldn't find a way to finish as Cal State Dominguez Hills kept its postseason hopes alive with a 1–0 victory at the Otter Sports Complex.

“The program made huge strides from the first to the last conference game this season,” says CSUMB Head Coach Erin Reinke. “The team is rebuilding, which takes time, but I feel we aren't that far behind those who are more established in the conference. I'm proud of the team for fighting as hard as they did. The team will do well next season.”

Dominguez Hills scored the only goal of the match just past the hour when Taylor Canatsey's corner kick found Jessica Murphy unmarked at the far post. As she had done 14 times previously this season, Murphy buried the best scoring chance of the season for either team.

The Otters had the first good chance to open the scorline at the 10 minute mark when freshman Cheryl Tom (Cupertino/Monta Vista HS) force a save from CSUDH goalkeeper Tiffany Hollis off an Andrea Davis (Chula Vista/Coronado HS) corner kick. But the Toros slowly took control of the match from that point, never quite dominating but still keeping the Otters at bay until Murphy strike provided the difference.

CSUMB ends the season at 3–14–0 overall and 2–14–0 in the CCAA. Cal State Dominguez Hills improved to 9–8–1 and 7–7–1 but now must sit and watch the CCAA tournament unfold to see if its No. 6 ranking this week will hold and be enough for a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
