Otter men look to stay undefeated at home as CCAA leader Cal Poly Pomona visits

FULL RELEASE IN PDF FORMAT

SEASIDE, Calif. -- After picking up its first road win of 2011, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team returns to what have been the very friendly confines of the Otter Sports Complex to host CCAA South Division co–leader Cal Poly Pomona Friday (Oct. 7) in a match that could have big postseason ramifications for both teams.

Friday's match adds and additional plot twist: both CSUMB Head Coach Cummings and third year CPP head man Lance Thompson are former NAIA head coaches and assistant at national power Midwestern State.

“I've said all along that we have to defend our home field and this week will be especially challenging,” says Cummings. “Not only is Cal Poly a very good team, but they're coached by another former Midwestern State coach so there probably won't be many surprises.”

Both Cummings and third year CPP head man Lance Thompson are former NAIA head coaches and assistant at national power Midwestern State.

The home cooking will be more of a snack than a meal, however, as the Otters head right back to the road to play at Cal State East Bay Sunday (Oct. 9). CSUMB took a 2–0 decision when the teams met in Seaside on Sept. 11. Max Brixey (Truckee HS) and Connor Ray (Glendale, Ariz./Mountain Ridge HS) scored the Otter goals.
