Otters Fall In Four To San Francisco State

Senior Rheann Fall registers 11th double-double with 20 kills and 18 digs.

SEASIDE, Calif.
– Despite winning the opening frame, the Cal State Monterey Bay fell in four sets to the San Francisco State Gators on Saturday 25-27, 25-20, 25-18, 26-24.

For the second consecutive night, senior outside hitter Rheann Fall (Elk Grove/St. Francis HS) registered 20 kills.  She also picked up her 11th double-double with her 18 digs.  Senior libero Dionna Lucas (Redlands/Arrowhead Christian Academy) recorded 19 digs and two aces.  Senior middle blocker Tiffaney Riggs (Vancouver, Wash./ Heritage HS) had seven total blocks.

The first set consisted of 20 tied scores and seven lead changes with the Otter coming out on top at 27-25.  CSUMB had a match-high .262 attack percentage with 17 kills on 42 attempts and six errors.  Fall led the Otters with seven kills and .600 clip. 

The Gators evened the match with a 25-20 second set win.  SF State held a slight advantage throughout the first third of the set until a 7-1 run gave the Gators a 23-16 lead capped by a kill by Robyn Hall.  Both teams struggled on offense with the Otters finishing with a .125 clip compared to SF State's .136.  Fall finished with four kills and five digs.

After the ten-minutes intermission, the Gators came out with a vengeance by taking an 8-1 lead.  The Otters were never able to get back into the set as SF State cruised to a 25-18 victory.  Senior outside hitter Lauren Shacklock (Tehachapi/CSU Bakersfield) tallied a .600 clip with three kills on five attempts and no errors.

The fourth and final set was a dogfight with neither team taking a larger lead than three points.  The Gators came out on top with three straight points  to win 26-24 and claim a four-set victory.

Hall led three SF State players in double-figure kills with 21, as Halimah Oswald had 18 and Megan Johnson 12.  Iris Tolenada had a match-high 57 assists and 26 digs. 

The Otters return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 1 when the squad hosts Cal State East Bay in a mid-week league game slated to begin at 7 p.m.
