SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team dropped a four-set match to the Broncos of Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at the Kelp Bed. The final scores were 25-21, 23-25, 25-23 and 25-15.

Senior outside hitter Rheann Fall (Elk Grove/St. Francis HS) led all hitters with 20 kills for a .241 clip.  With her 14 digs, she registered her 10th double-double of the season.  Senior setter Monique Sena (Valinda/Bishop Amat Memorial HS) racked up 34 assists and four aces.  Senior Lauren Shacklock (Tehachapi/Tehachapi HS) nabbed 11 kills while junior Rachel Freeno (Alta Loma/Alta Loma HS) added 10 kills.  Senior Dionna Lucas (Redlands/Arrowhead Christian Academy) finished with 20 digs.

The Broncos jumped out to an early lead in the opening set. However, the Otters clawed their way back, cutting the gap to one point at 13-12.  A 6-2 run gave CPP a cushion that led to a 25-21 first set win.  Freshman Kelsey Johnston and Sena had five assists each while Fall registered five kills and five digs.

A late run in the second set gave the Otters a 25-23 win and evened the match at 1-1.  Once again the Otters saw the Broncos take a quick lead but CSUMB fought back to even it at 18-18 on a Freeno kill.  The Otters nabbed the win on a kill by senior middle Tiffaney Riggs.  Sena tallied three aces and five digs in the set while Fall continued to lead the Otters with six kills.

The third set appeared to be a repeat of the second with the Otters attempting a late rally with a block by Fall and sophomore Lily Staight (Visa/Rancho Buena Vista HS) to make it 23-22 CPP.  After the Broncos answered with their own wall of a block, Staight crushed the ball for a kill. CPP's Taylr Kreutziger's kill gave the Broncos a 25-23 win. Fall repeated with six kills.

The Broncos slowly pulled away before going on a 7-3 run capped a Kreutziger kill.  CPP cruised to a 25-15 set victory to end the match.   Freeno led CSUMB's defense with eight digs while sophomore Lacee Ventura (Salinas/Salinas High) added six. CPP registered zero errors for a .375 clip.

Five Broncos finished in double-digits with Courtney Alberi leading the squad with 15 kills. Karissa Lagmay nabbed a match-high 23 digs.

CSUMB welcomes San Francisco State to the Kelp Bed on Satursday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m.   The Otters will host Dig for a Cure Night, raising awareness for breast cancer.
