Otters Topped By Golden Eagles In Four

LOS ANGELES, Calif.
- The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team began the second half of regular season conference play on the road at Cal State Los Angeles. The Golden Eagles took the match with a four set victory (31-29, 25-21, 24-26, 25-19) over the Otters.

“I am proud of how we fought and didn't give up tonight,” says Head Coach Jody Garry. “We did a lot of good things and our goal is to take the good and bring it to our game tomorrow.”

The Otters came out with high energy in the first set, which eventually went all the way to a 31-29 Cal State L.A. decision. CSUMB started the set with 5-0 lead and battled back and forth until the first tied score of the match at 12 points apiece.  The Otters would fight through the first set with 11 lead changes. Senior Rheann Fall saw eight of her 18 kills in the first set.

Cal State L.A. came out strong in the second set but the Otters fought back to have four tied scores up until the 14-14 mark. Both Melanie Lashbrook and Rheann Fall had four kills and Monique Sena had 13 assists. Marquis Mora had five kills for the Golden Eagles as they took a 2-0 lead.

 CSUMB fought off a pair of match points in the third set and the Otters spread offense was enough to extend the match to four sets.

Cal State L.A. responded in the fourth set by hitting .400 to put the match away.

 Fall ended the match with 18 kills and eight digs. Rachel Freeno had seven kills and 17 digs, just shy of her career high of 18. Melanie Lashbrook added another 16 kills and Monique Sena tossed up 36 assists, and seven digs.

The Otters continue play on the road at Cal State Dominguez Hills Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7p.m.
