SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team extended its winning to five with a 3-1 victory over No. 20 Cal State L.A. tonight at the Kelp Bed. Final scores were 25-21, 25-18, 27-29 and 25-21.
The Otters improved to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play while the Golden Eagles dropped to 6-3, 3-2 in conference action.
“I am impressed with our consistency tonight,” said head coach #Jody Garry#. “The changes we made in the third set carried over the fourth.”
Junior #Rheann Fall# notched her sixth double-double of the season with 20 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore #Monique Sena# had a team-high 18 digs along with 35 assists to record her second double-double the year. The Otters recorded a season-high 12 aces with junior #Melanie Lashbrook# and sophomore #Tori Taijeron# leading the charge with four each.
The Golden Eagles were led by Natalia Gonzalez and Marquis Mora, who chipped in 12 kills each.
CSULA made 14 service errors in the four sets. The Otters held the Golden Eagles to an overall attack percentage of .145 with the combination of 11 team blocks and 70 digs.
Fall garnered this week's Sport Imports/AVCA National Player of the Week after lead the Otters to victories over then No. 11 UC San Diego and No. 24 Cal State East Bay.
The Otters host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, Sept 25 at 7 p.m. at the Kelp Bed.
