CSUMB Sweeps Cal Poly Pomona

Otters record first conference win of the season

POMONA, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team swept Cal Poly Pomona, 27-25, 25-20, 25-18, Saturday, for its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) victory of the season.

The Otters improve to 4-1 on the season with the victory, while the Broncos fall to 3-3.

Junior #Rheann Fall# led the Otters with 16 kills while sophomore #Lauren Ding# dug a career-high 14 kills. Junior #Lauren Shacklock# added 14 kills for a team-high .385 attack percentage.  Junior #Melanie Lashbrook# recorded five blocks.

With eight tied scores and two lead changes, the Otters went into extra points to clinch the first set, 27-25. The Broncos jumped out to a 8-4 lead in the second set before the Otters rallied to tie it at 8-8 on Ding's ace. CSUMB went on a 6-1 run to nab a 2-0 set lead. The Otters dominated the third set, never relinquishing the lead after the second serve the set.

The Broncos were led by Jessica Doerner's 12 kills.

The Otters return home on Friday, Sept. 17 to host No. 11 UC San Diego at 7 p.m. at the Otter Sports Center.
