SAN FRANCISCO - At Maloney Field on Friday afternoon, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team dropped game one of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) series with San Francisco State, 15-2.
Freshman second baseman #Nolan Murray# went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and one run scored for the Otters. Senior center fielder #Brent Sargenti# went 2-for-3 with a double.
Spreading out six runs in the first and second innings, the Gators jumped on top with a 6-0 lead on six hits.
CSUMB scored a single run in the fifth to get on the board. Murray laid down a successful bunt, finding his way onto first. Stealing second, Murray was in perfect scoring position. Freshman #Ronnie Fhurong# singled up the middle for the first run for the Otter offense.
The Gators answered back in the fifth with a run of their own with two hits.
The Otters scored their final run of the game in the sixth inning. Senior catcher #Joey Friedman# hit a first-pitch double to right center. Freshman right fielder #Thomas George# followed with a single to second base, scoring Friedman from second.
SF State had nine hits to score eight runs in the last three innings.
Five starters produced hits for CSUMB. The Otters were outhit 20-10.
CSUMB will honor their nine seniors before the start of Saturday's doubleheader, Apr. 24, at 12 p.m. when the two teams face-off once again.
