SOFTBALL
UPCOMING GAMES:
No. 17 Otters hit the road to take on conference rival Sonoma State in their fourth CCAA series of the season.

COACH KENNEY'S CORNER: “This is an exciting week for CSUMB Softball. It is always fun to play for the right to be alone at the top of the conference. Sonoma is having a great year, we will have to be at our best.”

PREVIOUS WEEKEND: CSUMB won the 3-1 series against Cal State San Bernardino this past weekend.  The Otters kicked off the series with two shutout games, 1-0 and 5-0, on Friday.  In Saturday's opener, the Coyotes retaliated with a 2-0 win before the Otters came crushing back with a 10-2 win in a 4.5 inning game. 

CCAA STAT RANKINGS: The Otters are in the top 5 in all the conference batting categories, second in doubles (27), walks (56) and slugging percentage (.446) while second in ERA (2.22) and opposing bat average (.227).  #Shae Olds# - 3rd in home runs (5) and 5th in RBI (14). #Jamie Moon# - 5th in doubles (5).  #Cat Sampson# - 5th in doubles (5). #Jenny Montez# - 2nd in runs scored (15) and 5th in doubles (5).

NCAA RANKINGS: In the NFCA 1st season poll, CSUMB is ranked 17th in the nation.  This is the first time a sport besides golf has appeared in the national polls.

CCAA PRESEASON POLL: CSUMB has been tabbed to repeat as the CCAA tournament champions following a vote of league coaches. The Otters are picked to finish second in the regular season behind Humboldt State.

THE SEAWOLVES: Sonoma State (15-4, 10-2 CCAA) is coming into this weekend with a four-game sweep at Cal State East Bay. Players to Watch: CCAA Batting Average Leader LeeAnn Stroud (.488 BA, 21 H, 11 RBI, 13 R, 4 2B, 4 SB); Ashley Britton (.431 BA, 22 H, 10 RBI, 14 R, 7 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR).

UPCOMING GAMES:
Currently on a three-game winning streak, the Otters travel to San Francisco State for a non-conference game against the Gators. The Otters then return home to host Cal State L.A. in a CCAA four-game series.

PREVIOUS WEEKEND: CSUMB began the week with a 7-5 victory over Montana State-Billings on Wednesday and followed it with a 12-2 win against Academy of Art the next day.  The Otters squeezed out a 11-8 win over Patten University on Saturday afternoon.

CAREER MILESTONE: Senior #Jacob Flores# is only the second player to reach the 100 hit milestone in the five-year program.  Flores recorded his 100th hit on Sunday, Feb. 28th against UC San Diego.

THE GATORS: San Francisco State (7-11, 2-6 CCAA) has lost seven of its last nine games with a 1-3 series loss to Cal State L.A. in San Francisco. Players to Watch: Ryan Williams (.444 BA, 20 H, 11 R, 20 RBI, 6 2B, 5 HR), Nick Bowerman (.382 BA, 21 H, 5 R, 11 RBI, 4 2B, 2 HR).

THE EAGLES: Cal State L.A. (8-10, 6-6 CCAA) is in a three-way tie for fifth in the CCAA standings.  Players to Watch: Sam Wiley (.507 BA, 35 H, 17 R, 25 RBI, 4 2B, 5 HR), Chris Matzner (.362 BA, 25 H, 9 RBI, 10 R, 4 2B).

UPCOMING GAMES:
The Otters return home to host No. 18 Indiana University on Sunday, March 14.  CSUMB also welcomes Macalester College (MN) to the Otter Aquatics Center.

COACH FIGUEROA'S CORNER: “Our team had some highs and lows during the six games played this weekend but we really found our rhythm on Sunday. We played our best ever in a loss to ASU and continued that in our win over Penn State Behrend. #Julie Cooper# and #Sarah Ford# were standout players for us on defense. #Chloe McRae# and #Katie Soul# continue to help lead the offense. ”

PREVIOUS WEEKEND: The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team finished the Cal Lutheran Spring Classic with a bang, shutting out Penn State-Behrend 18-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Otters opened the Classic with an 11-7 loss to host Cal Lutheran but bounced back with a 9-7 victory over Fresno Pacific. The next day, CSUMB once again dropped the first game, falling to Wagner 5-2 but claimed a 12-6 win over LaVerne.  The Otters competed strong against No. 6 Arizona State on Sunday morning. For the weekend, the Otters were led by senior #Heather Penna#, junior #Alexandra Vespremi# and sophomore #Riley Malane# who each notched seven goals.  Junior #Chloe McRae# scored six goals and sophomore #Katie Sowul# added five goals in the six games.



WOMEN'S GOLF

UPCOMING TOURNAMENT: The Otters are competing in the Ashland University Desert Invitational held at Longbow Golf Club, home of the 2010 NCAA Division II Championship.

PREVIOUS OUTING: CSUMB held steady at sixth place, carding a 321 on the final day of the St. Edwards Invitational at the Grey Rock Golf Club on Tuesday. The Otters finished with a 36-hole team score 655 on the 6,018-yard, par-71 course.
