SEASIDE, Calif. – Sophomore #Caydi Dommeyer# blasted a two-run homer in the first game of the Chico State doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, leading the Cal State Monterey Bay softball team to a 6-0 shutout. The Otters dropped the final game of the series, 5-1.
"I am pleased with the weekend," said head coach #Andrea Kenney#. "Chico State is a much improved team.
"We worked through some injuries and depth was very apparent."
Junior #Nicole Garcia# led the Otters at the plate today, 2-for-4 with two walks, 2 RBI and a run.

All the Otter action came in the first three innings. To leadoff the game, senior right fielder #Jenny Montez# singled down the right line. Sophomore #Jamie Moon# laid down a sacrifice bunt but beat the throw at first. Garcia doubled to center field to score Montez. With one out, junior #Cat Sampson# singled through the left side to bring Moon in for the second run. Senior #Marisa Trujillo# reached first on a shortstop error to score the final run of the inning.
After Montez drew a walk, Moon crushed a double to right center with one out. Garcia singled through the left side gap, scoring Montez to make it 4-0.
Dommeyer's home run was a two-run blast over the left center wall in the third inning, leading to a 6-0 victory.
Junior #Diane Ortiz# pitched a two-hit complete shutout, striking out four batters. Garcia batted in two runs, going 2-for-3 to lead the Otters.

Diane Ortiz was amazing for us this weekend," Kenney said.

For the eighth time this season, the Otters took the lead first in the game. Junior #Shae Olds# drew a bases loaded walk in the third inning, 1-0.
The Wildcats tied it up in their first chance. Rachel Falla doubled to right center, scoring Sam Quadt who reached first after being hit by a pitch.
Chico State's bats caught fire in the top of the seventh inning, scoring four runs on six hits and no CSUMB errors.
Montez, Olds and Dommeyer each got hits for the Otters. Garcia drew her first loss of the season after pitching 6.1 innings, giving up four runs on six hits.
