POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team split a doubleheader with Cal Poly Pomona in its first California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) road trip of the season. The Otters fell 11-6 in the opener and rebounded with an 8-5 victory in the nightcap.
Freshman second baseman #Nolan Murray# led the Otters at the plate, going 3-for-8 with three runs as the leadoff batter.
GAME 1 – Pomona 11, CSUMB 6

The Otters took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. Freshman catcher #Tyler Young# singled to right field, scoring Murray who led off the game with a double.
Pomona tied the game in the bottom of the second off a sacrifice fly by David Jacques.
The Broncos scored eight runs on three hits in their side of the third inning, taking a 9-1 lead.
Pomona added single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
The Otters racked up three runs in the seventh on a double by sophomore #Niko Kanakaris# and a single by senior #Ryan Chagonjian#. CSUMB added two unearned runs in the final inning.
Young batted in two runs on his 2-for-4 appearance.
GAME 2 – CSUMB 8, Pomona 5

Once again, the Otters jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Murray hit his second first-inning double of the day to lead off. Young singled to shortstop to score Murray.
The Otters got hot in the top of the fifth inning, scoring seven runs on six hits. Senior #Brent Sargenti# led off the inning with a double to left center. Murray's single put Otters at the corners. Freshman #Ronnie Fhurong# doubled to score Sargenti and Young followed with a single to bring Murray to the plate. Senior #Jacob Flores# reached first on an error, bringing Fhurong in for the third run of the inning. Sophomores #Jordan Porcella-Smeds# and #Chris Lopiccolo# hit back-to-back singles to score Young. Sargenti hit his second double of the inning to clear bases for the final three runs of the inning.
Pomona posted two runs in the bottom of the fifth and added three more in the final inning.
Senior #Justin Aguilera# recorded the victory after pitching five innings and allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out three batters.
Young went 2-for-4, batting in two runs and scoring one. The Otters racked up 11 hits to the Broncos' 10.
CSUMB plays a single nine-inning game on Saturday, Feb. 20 at Scolinos Field. First pitch is 11 a.m.
