MEN'S BASKETBALL 
OPENING TIP: Looking to break a five-game losing streak, the  Otters host Cal State East Bay and UC San Diego in their final two home  games of the regular season. CSUMB will be looking to avenge its earlier  loss to the Pioneers on Friday, Feb. 19.

CCAA STAT RANKINGS: Against conference opponents, the Otters  are second in steals (7.4) and second in free throw percentage (72.1).   Freshman #Davion Berry# - 9th in scoring (12.8), 15th in steals (1.1) and  14th in free throw percentage (77.0).  Senior #Sean Jergo# - 26th in  scoring (9.5), 4th in rebounding (6.6), 5th in defensive rebounds (4.5),  3rd in offensive rebounds (2.3), 13th in blocked shots (0.6) and15th in  free throw percentage (76.3). Junior #Ian Hosford# - 15th in rebounding  (5.3) and 7th in defensive rebounds (4.2). Freshman #Brandon Ward# - 12th  in free throw percentage (77.8) and 15th in assists (2.1). 
NATIONAL STAT RANKINGS: CSUMB is ranked in the top 100  in three categories; free-throw percentage (71.2 - 75th), field-goal  percentage defense (42.4 - 85th) and 3-point field goal defense (32.4 -  94th). 
THE PIONEERS: Cal State East Bay (5-18, 2-16 CCAA) is in last  place in its first year of competing in the conference.  The Pioneers  recorded an 88-69 victory over the Otters on Jan. 16 in Hayward. Players  to Watch: Mark Samuels (9.0 ppg, 74.6 FT pct), Jawaan Rubin (6.1 ppg,  3.4 rpg); Donavon Jackson (6.1 ppg, 17 steals). 
THE TRITONS: UC San Diego (7-14, 6-12 CCAA) is just a  one game head of the Otters in the CCAA standings.  CSUMB pulled off a  66-62 victory over the Tritons in La Jolla on Jan. 14. Players to Watch:  Jordan Lawley (20.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 56 assists); Tyler Acevedo (8.7 ppg,  81.3 FT pct), Christian Hatch (7.9 ppg, 5.3 rpg). 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
OPENING TIP: Entering their second to last weekend of regular  season competition, the Otters are in the fifth spot in the CCAA  standings.  CSUMB hosts Cal State East Bay on Friday, Feb. 19 followed  by a match-up against UC San Diego on Saturday, Feb. 20. 
CCAA STAT RANKINGS: Against conference opponents, the Otters  are first in 3-point field goals average (6.9). Senior #Veronica Williams#  - 14th in scoring (12.1), 2nd in free throw percentage (84.8), 3rd in  3-point field goals average (2.1), 13th in 3-point field goal percentage  (34.2), 18th in rebounding (5.6) and 10th in defensive rebounding  (4.9).  Senior #Helen Suarez# - 21st in scoring (10.0), 5th in free throw  percentage (78.5), 14th in 3-point field goal percentage (33.3) and14th  in assists (2.1). Junior #Julie Heurung# - 5th in blocked shots (1.5), 9th  in rebounding (7.9), 11th in offensive rebounding (2.6) and 9th in  defensive rebounding (5.0). Junior #Michelle Santizo# - 28th in scoring  (8.9) and 10th in 3-point field goal average (1.4). 
NATIONAL STAT RANKINGS: CSUMB is ranked in the top 100  in seven categories: scoring defense (57.0, 34th), 3-point field goals  per game (6.8, 47th), won-lost percentage (73.7, 50th), field goal  percentage defense (36.9, 57th),  turnover per game (17.5,80th), 3-point  field goal defense (30.1, 96th) and scoring margin (4.1, 99th). Julie Heurung# is ranked 94th in blocked shots (1.3). 
THE PIONEERS: Cal State East Bay (1-22, 1-17 CCAA)  earned its first victory, 69-68, of the season on Feb. 4 against Cal  State L.A. CSUMB cruised by the Pioneers in a 82-62 decision on Jan. 16  in Hayward. Players to Watch: Claudia Nelson (13.6 ppg, 52 assists);  Andrea Rodriguez (8.9 ppg, 75.6 FT pct). 
THE TRITONS: No. 11 UC San Diego (21-2, 16-2 CCAA)  recorded its second loss in conference play on Feb. 13 at Chico State,  77-67. CSUMB almost pulled off an upset on Jan. 14 as the Tritons nabbed  a 68-63 win in La Jolla. Players to Watch: Chelsea Carlisle (18.2 ppg,  73 assists, 80.9 FT pct); Annette Ilg (11.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg); Tiffany  Hunter (11.3 ppg, 7.1 rpg). 
WOMEN'S WATER POLO
UPCOMING GAMES: CSUMB hosts a single game against University of  the Pacific on Saturday at noon. 
PREVIOUS WEEKEND: The Otters fell in all four games at  the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunner Invitational last weekend.  Junior # 
Chloe McRae# led the Otters with seven goals in the four games.   Sophomore #Alyssa Pecora# recorded five goals while classmate #Katie Sowul#  added four goals.
BASEBALL
UPCOMING GAMES: The Otters travel to Cal Poly Pomona for their  first road CCAA four-game series of the year.  CSUMB takes on the  Broncos on Friday, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. 
PREVIOUS WEEKEND: CSUMB was swept in a four-game series  by Cal State San Bernardino this past weekend at the Otter Baseball  Field. #Tyler Young#, a freshman catcher from Aiea, is making an immediate  impact on the Otter baseball team with a strong showing this past  week.  He went 10-for-19 (.526) with one double and only one strikeout.   Young batted in five runs. In the final game of the Cal State San  Bernardino series, Young hit a 2 RBI double to tie the game up 9-9 in  the fifth inning.
THE BRONCOS: Cal Poly Pomona (6-3, 0-0 CCAA) opened its  2010 campaign with a non-conference victory over Cal State L.A. on Feb.  1 in Pomona. Players to Watch: senior second baseman Marcus Makia   (.500 BA, 14 H, 1 HR, 1 3B, 3 2B, 8 RBI); senior infielder Nick Tanos  (.394 BA, 13 H, 2 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 8 R).
SOFTBALL
UPCOMING GAMES: CSUMB returns to Turlock this weekend after  dealing with a rain-filled tournament there last weekend. The Otters  kickoff their conference weekend against Cal State Stanislaus on Friday,  Feb. 12 at 1 p.m. 
PREVIOUS WEEKEND: The Otters recorded their first-ever  four-game sweep of Cal State Stanislaus over the weekend. On Friday,  CSUMB started the conference season with power on victories over the  Warriors by identical scores of 12-3.
CCAA WEEKLY HONOR: Junior catcher #Shae Olds# has been  named the Worth/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA)  Softball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 8-14, it was announced  on Monday. Olds powered the Otters to their first-ever four-game sweep  of Cal State Stanislaus over the weekend. She batted .385 (5-for-13)  with four runs scored, four home runs and nine RBI while posting a 1.308  slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage. Olds homered in all  four games and had three multiple-RBI games. In Saturday's doubleheader  against the Warriors, Olds hit 3-run homers in the first inning of both  games. Last year, Olds earned the honor in the final week after breaking  the conference home run record when she blasted her 15th of the season.
CCAA STAT RANKINGS: The Otters are in the top 5 in all the  conference batting categories, leading in slugging percentage (.555),  doubles (16), triples (2) and total bases (86).  #Shae Olds# - 1st in home  runs (4), 1st in total bases (17) 2nd in RBI (9) and 2nd in slugging  percentage (.850). #Jamie Moon# - 8th in batting average (.462), on base  percentage (.588), slugging percentage (.769) and 1st in triples (1).   #Cat Sampson# - 2nd in doubles (4) and 2nd in RBI (9). #Jenny Montez# - 2nd  in doubles (4), 1st in triples (1) and 8th in total bases (12). 
NCAA RANKINGS: In the NFCA pre-season poll, CSUMB is  ranked 30th in the nation (found in the receiving votes section).  This  is the first time a sport besides golf has appeared in the national  polls. 
CCAA PRESEASON POLL: CSUMB has been tabbed to repeat as  the CCAA tournament champions following a vote of league coaches. The  Otters are picked to finish second in the regular season behind Humboldt  State. 
THE WILDCATS: Chico State (4-2, 2-2 CCAA) swept the  Tritons of UC San Diego on the first day of CCAA play but dropped the  twinbill the next day to split the four-game series last weekend.  Players to Watch: Christine Johnson (.333 BA, 5 H, 5 R, 2 SB); Charlotte  Honciano (.316 BA, 6 H, 2 2B, 4 R, 5 SB).
