SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team dropped a 52-50 decision on Friday night to the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros at the Otter Sports Center.
The Otters fall to 14-7 overall and 10-7 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play while the Toros improved to 9-13, 8-9 in conference action.
Junior #LaShawn Johnson# led the Otters with 12 points and seven boards. Senior #Helen Suarez# recorded 11 points with junior #Michelle Santizo# adding 10 points. Freshman #Holly Holcomb# and Santizo also pulled down seven rebounds each.
Trailing 26-19 at the break, the Otters closed the gap to three (37-34) at the 11:29 mark on a Santizo 3-pointer. CSUMB would flirt with tying the score five times in the final five minutes but were unable to overcome that hurdle.
The Toros had only one player reach double-digits in scoring, senior Neka Mixon with 23 points while senior Barbara Houston recorded 16 boards.
The Otters shot their second lowest free throw percentage of the season, only connecting on 9-for-22 (40.9 percent).
