CSUMB Falls 3-1 to Dixie State

SEASIDE, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to the Dixie State Red Storm in the morning match of the Otter Classic on Saturday, Aug. 28. 

Senior middle hitter #Elizabeth Hanna# hit a career-high .409 with 10 kills and one error on 22 attempts. Senior #Kerri Sudarsana# led the Otters with 13 kills while senior #Alisha Thomas# added 10.  Red-shirt freshman #Monique Sena# dished out 36 assists and a team-high 19 digs.

The teams opened the match with the four lead changes and eight tied scores before the Red Storm went on a six-point run that begun on a kill by Alex Shearer.  Dixie State coasted to a 25-11 firs set win.

The Otters took a quick 3-0 lead in the second set topped on a kill by Sudarsana. The Red Storm battled back before CSUMB extended the gap to 13-8 on Hanna's back-to-back aces.  Dixie State would close to within two points at 17-15, before the Otters would rack up four straight points on kills by Thomas and Hanna along with an ace by #Katie Bos#. CSUMB tied the match at 1-1 on a Sudarsana kill.

The third set began like a repeat of the first with numerous ties and lead changes before Dixie State took a 12-9 lead and forcing a CSUMB timeout. Dixie State would maintain the lead in the set for a 25-17 win, taking a 2-1 set advantage in the match.

Red-shirt sophomore transfer #Lauren Shacklock#'s kill gave the Otters their largest lead in the fourth set at 7-5.  After two tied scores, the Red Storm went on a 7-4 run for a 16-11 lead.  CSUMB battled back to within one point at 19-18 by forcing a Dixie State error. The Red Storm went on to capture the victory at 25-21.

Dixie State's Brita Noble recorded a team-high 18 kills and middle hitter Morgan Hill nabbed three blocks.

Dixie State and Findlay pair up against each other at 2 p.m. before CSUMB returns to the court for the Otter Classic Finale at 7 p.m. against Findlay.
