CSUMB Drops Twinbill At San Francisco State

Senior Matt DeJesus makes CSUMB history, on 16-game hitting streak

SAN FRANCISCO
– The Otters baseball team dropped the middle two games of their four-game set at San Francisco State on Saturday at Maloney Field.

The Gators won game one 7-4, and took the nightcap, 10-8.

CSUMB took a 2-0 lead in the third inning, scoring both runs on a wild pitch by SFSU relief pitcher Eric Keithley.

SFSU tied it up in the bottom of the frame on two hits.

The Gators broke the tie in the sixth inning on a RBI single by Javier Solis.

The Otters retook the lead in the seventh inning with three hits. Senior #Shea Davis# drew a walk and senior #Andrew Marquardt# doubled down the right line.  Senior #Matt DeJesus# and junior #Jacob Flores# hit back-to-back RBI singles to give CSUMB a 4-3 lead.

SFSU answered by posting three runs on three hits in their side of the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer by Williams.  The Gators added another run in the eighth inning.

CSUMB jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first inning after racking up six hits.  Davis opened the game with a single to right field and Marquardt followed with a single up the middle, moving Davis to third base.  A wild pitch brought Davis across the plate, and Marquardt advanced to second. DeJesus hit a RBI single to right center and then stole second base. Three consecutive singles by junior #Ryan Chagonjian#, senior #Michael Trump# and junior #Brent Sargenti# recorded two more runs for the Otters.

The Otters added two more runs in the second inning on DeJesus's RBI double and ground out by Chagonjian.

The Gators made the game 6-4 in the bottom of the second on five hits, all singles.

A groundout in the third inning scored Sargenti who reached first base on a hit by a pitch, making it 7-4 Otters.

DeJesus was a one man show in the fourth inning, reaching first on a single and stealing both second and third base.  He then scored on a balk, extending CSUMB's lead to 8-4.

SFSU scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, closing the gap to 8-7, before tying it at 8-8 in the fifth inning on a RBI double by Bobby Carini.

The Gators took the lead in their last at bat, scoring two runs on three hits.

DeJesus went 2-for-4 in the opener and was a perfect 4-for-4 with a  double in the second game, extending his hitting streak to 16 games, a new CSUMB record. 

CSUMB returns to Otter Field on Sunday, April 19 to close out the CCAA series with the Gators with a 12 p.m. start time.
