Box Score

SEASIDE, Calif.
–Despite a strong pitching performance by starter #Patrick McClain#, the Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team fell victim to a ninth-inning rally to San Francisco State, dropping a 12-10 decision at the Otter Baseball Field on Friday.

The Gators took a 1-0 lead on a passed ball in the first inning.

CSUMB answered with a seven-run second inning.  Junior #Jacob Flores# led off with a home run to left center field.  Senior #Steve Mays# followed with a triple off the top of the centerfield wall.  Sophomore #Andrew DeGarmo#'s double to the right center gap scored Mays and senior #Daniel Barras# hit a single past a diving third baseman to put runners on the corners. DeGarmo scored on a wild pitch. Junior #Joey Friedman# drew a walk and advanced on a sacrifice bunt by junior #Brent Sargenti#.  A sacrifice fly by senior #Shea Davis# brought Barras across the plate.  Senior #Andrew Marquardt# singled up the middle to once again put runners on the corners. Senior #Matt DeJesus# hits second home run of the inning on the first pitch he sees, sending it over the left center wall for a three-run jack.  The Otters ended the inning with seven hits.

San Francisco State scored an unearned run in the third inning on one hit and a CSUMB error.

In the fourth inning, Sargenti made the defensive play of the year by making a full extension dive towards the wall to catch a ball in center field, robbing Greg Kline of an extra-base hit.

The Otters extended their lead with two runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning on two sacrifice flies and Marquardt's RBI double.  The Gators also scored a run in the fifth inning.

CSUMB saw its 10-4 cushion disappear in the seventh inning when the Gators put up five runs on five single hits.

With two outs in the top of the ninth, SFSU's Carini hit a two-run homer to give the Gators an 11-10 lead.  San Francisco State added another run to secure the victory.

McClain surrendered just one earned run on five hits in the five-inning outing, while striking out four batters.

DeJesus extended his 14-game hitting streak with two hits against the Gators.  He is now tied with Mays for the CSUMB record.

The Otters travel to San Francisco on Saturday, April 18 for a doubleheader that begins at 12 p.m.
