SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team defeated Chico State by a score of 2-1 at the Otter Soccer Complex in the final regular season game of the season.
"The victory today was a great way to cap the season," said head coach #Artie Cairel#. "Ever senior contributed in today's win.
Despite being outshot 15-5, the Otters managed to find the back of the net twice.
The first half was evenly matched, with CSuMB taking four shots and the Wildcats attempting five. CSUMB keeper #Brenden Baca# recorded three saves in the period.
In the ninth minute of play, senior #Nate Torricelli# was rewarded a penalty kick after being fouled inside the box. He sent a hard kick to the left corner to give the Otters a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats answered in the 39th minute when Chris Akwaja scored on a cross by Evan Armstrong to tie the game 1-1.
With only two minutes left in the first half, Torricelli sent the ball across the front of the goal and senior #Riley Johns# tapped it under the diving Chico State keeper Michael Keohane. This was the second goal of the season for Johns.
The Otter defense stopped five goals, four in the second half, and Baca collected seven saves for the game.

"Nate (Torricelli) was a spectacular leader and led the way the entire season," Cairel said. "I was so happy to see him get a goal in his final game."
