SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team fought hard but dropped a 3-2 decision to No. 21 Cal State L.A. , at Otter Sports Center; 22-25, 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 15-9.
Sophomore #Rheann Fall# recorded another double-double with a dozen digs and kills. Senior #Elizabeth Hanna# added 10 kills, five blocks and three aces while sophomore #Tiffaney Riggs# racked up eight blocks. Freshman #Monique Sena# dished out 29 assists.
The Otters posted a come-from-behind victory in the opening set with Fall posting four kills on nine attempts and no errors for a .444 clip. At 11-11, the Eagles went on a 7-1 run before the Otters turned on the guns by scoring seven consecutive points sparked on a kill by senior #Kerri Sudarsana#. CSUMB went on take the first set 25-22.
Riggs led the Otters in the second set with a .800 clip (4-for-5), but it was not enough as CSULA tied the match at one set apiece with a score of 25-18.
After falling in the third set 25-17, CSUMB rebounded in the fourth by recording a team .265 attack percentage. Hanna put down a set-up five kills to lead the Otters.
CSULA took a quick 2-0 lead in the final set and gradually pulled away to win the match.
The Eagles were led by Gabriela Bulawczyk with 18 kills and three aces. Chelsea Hamilton and Zuzanna Cizova added 14 and 13 kills respectively.
CSUMB host its final two home games of the season next weekend at the Kelp Bed. The Otters welcome Cal State East Bay on Friday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m.
