LA JOLLA, Calif. – After winning an exciting first set, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 3 UC San Diego on Friday night at RIMAC Arena, 26-28, 25-10, 25-20, 26-24.
CSUMB drops to 6-9 overall and 2-6 in the CCAA with the loss, while UCSD remains in second place with a 15-1, 7-1 mark.
The Otters were paced by sophomore #Rheann Fall#'s 12 kills and nine digs while the Tritons were led by Sylvia Schmidt with 15 kills and Julia Freidenberg's 12 kills. CSUMB's senior #Kerri Sudarsana# and sophomore #Tiffaney Riggs# each registered four blocks.
"We had many small victories tonight that will help us on our journey from good to great," said head coach #Jody Garry#. "We served tough and stayed in it passing.Our blocking and defense allowed slowed down their outside hitters which is the first time we have been able to do that in my three years here. Our attacking numbers were not were they need to be to pull off that fourth game and take them to the fifth. We are continuing to move in the right direction and I am empowered by that."
The Otters return north to take on Cal State East Bay on Saturday, Oct. 3 in Hayward. First serve is 7 p.m.
