ARCATA, Calif.
– The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 25-23) to Humboldt State University in their first conference match on the road.

Freshman #Rheann Fall# had eight kills and eight digs for the Otters. Freshman #Tiffaney Riggs# led the Otters with three blocks.  Freshman libero #Dionna Lucas# recorded 10 digs.

After dropping the first set, the Otters jumped out to a 10-5 lead.  CSUMB held the lead until the Lumberjacks tied it up at 19 apiece. The Jacks went on to win the second set 26-24. Riggs notched a .800 going 4-for-5 with no errors.

The third set consisted with surges by both teams. With Humboldt State leading 14-10, junior #Rayna Richardson# fueled an Otter rally with a pair of kills.  CSUMB took a 16-15 lead on a kill by Fall.  With the scored tied at 20, the Jacks edged ahead on a kill by junior Danielle Wells to go on and win 25-23 to clinch the match.

“I was proud of how the team kept fighting,” said head coach Jody Garry, “but we didn't bring a consistent level or focus to the match.”

The Otters continue their road trip tomorrow night when they square off against Sonoma State University. First serve is at 7 p.m.
