Sept. 17, 2008

SEASIDE, Calif.
–Despite winning the third set in a best-of-five format, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team fell in four-sets to San Francisco State University in a California Conference Athletic Association battle at the Kelp Bed.  The Otters were toppled 25-9, 25-14, 23-25, 25-16, dropping the team to 3-8 (0-3 CCAA) on the season.

Freshman outside hitter #Rheann Fall# led the Otters with eight kills and nine digs. Junior #Annique Melese# notched a season high .455 attack percentage (7k, 2e, 11att). Freshman #Tiffaney Riggs# racked up two blocks against the Gators.

Junior Beth Perkins and freshman Kyle Lamet led the Gators with 16 and 15 kills respectively.  Lamet added a career-high six aces.

Following Tuesday's come-from-behind five-set victory, the Otters found themselves once again fighting back after dropping the first two sets.

Melese rallied the Otters in the third set with two kills sandwiched with a Gator's hitting error to give CSUMB their first lead of the match at 18-17.  The Otters went on to clinch a 25-23 third-set victory.

The Gators came back tough in the fourth set, taking a 14-7 lead and never looking back to claim a 25-16 win for a match victory.

The Otters return to the Kelp Bed on Friday to host No. 18 UC San Diego.  First serve is at 7 p.m.
