POMONA, Calif. --- The Cal Poly Pomona Broncos scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to snap and 8-8 tie and went on to defeat Cal State Monterey Bay 15-10 on Friday at Scolinos Field in Pomona.
The Otters tied the game 2-2 in the fourth, scored five in the fifth to take a 7-6 lead. #Matt DeJesus#, #Andrew Marquardt# and #Matt Rall# all had two hits each in the game. DeJesus hit his third homer of the season, a two-run shot, in the eighth.
But offense was not the problem. Starter #Justin Aguilera# (3.2 IP, 6 R) made it into the fourth inning but gave up a grand slam on a full count and was taken out. #Nadav Poringer# (0-3) pitched the next inning and two-thirds and gave up four more runs, three earned, and was hung with loss. #Daniel Bifano# relieved Poringer and gave up three runs without getting anybody out before #Norman Hebert# closed the game, giving up two runs in 2 2/3 innings.
Ryan Screnar went five innings for the Broncos, scattering seven hits and giving up seven runs. Sean Moreno (1-1) earned the victory in relief. He threw three innings and struck out four, walked one and allowed three hits, three runs (two earned).
The Otters are now 8-29 overall and 6-23 in the in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Broncos improve to 8-24 overall and 5-14. The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m., and a nine-inning game Sunday.
