SEASIDE, Calif.
– In a game they didn't trail once, the Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team defeated the William Jessup Warriors, 83-52, in a convincing fashion Saturday, Dec. 13 at the Otter Sports Center. CSUMB improves to 6-2 as the Warriors drop to 0-8 on the season.

“I am really proud of how this team has played in our first eight games,” said Otter head coach Renee Jimenez. “We have figured out who we are and found ways to win games.”

The Otters jumped out to a 14-4 and never looked back, taking a 44-26 lead at half.

CSUMB held the Warriors to only four points in the first 10-minutes. Senior #Dana Andrews# shot 100 percent from the three point line (3-for-3) to finish the first half with a team high 13 points.

After a strong rebound, sophomore #LaShawn Johnson# outlet the ball to junior #Helen Suarez#, who threw a baseball pass to junior #Janet Oseguera# who laid it up give the Otters a 17-point cushion at 13:44.

Andrews led the way for CSUMB with 23 points, hitting 5-of-7 three-point shots.  Oseguera shot a season high 10-for-12 from the paint and added a free throw for 21 points. LaShawn, Andrews and Oseguera had a team-high six rebounds apiece. Suarez nabbed a season-best 10 assists.

CSUMB hit an impressive 63.3 percent (34-of-54) of their shots in the game, while converting on 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from long range. William Jessup shot only 32.2 percent (19-of-59) for the game.

The Warriors were led by Rebekah Calvert with 21 points and six rebounds.

“We have to use the next three weeks to get better individually and as a team,” Jimenez said. “Our next goal is to win on the road for we have a tough schedule coming up with some opportunities to come home with some W's”

The Otters take three weeks off for the holiday break, before resuming California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference play at Sonoma State on Jan. 2 in Rohnert Park.
