CSUMB Sweeps Cal State Stanislaus For Second CCAA Victory

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's volleyball team notched their second CCAA conference sweep, coasting to a 25-23, 25-20, 25-20 victory over Cal State Stanislaus at Warrior Gym.  The Otters improve to 6-13 (2-7 CCAA) as the Warriors fall to 4-15 (1-8 CCAA).
 
Junior #Elizabeth Hanna# was perfect on the night, with five kills on nine attempt and no errors on top of five blocks. Freshman #Rheann Fall# turned in a match-high nine kills and two aces. Sophomore #Dana Grimm# added 27 assists, five digs and two kills.  Freshman libero #Dionna Lucas# and defensive specialist #Katie Bos# both registered 10 digs.

In the first set, the Otters jumped out to a 7-4 lead on a Hanna, but the Warriors raced back to take a 9-8 advantage on three consecutive Otter hitting errors. CSUMB answered with an 8-4 run for a 16-12 lead. Cal State Stanislaus tied it at 19-19 before the Otter pulled away for the 25-23 win on a kill by Fall.

A kill by freshman #Tiffaney Riggs# began a 4-1 run for the Otters to give them a 9-6 lead.  CSUMB didn't shake the Warriors off quite as quickly as they closed in within two at 10-8.  Two setter dinks by Grimm along with two Warrior attacking errors gave the Otters a 13-8 lead.  Junior #Rayna Richardson# clinched the set victory on a kill for a 25-20 win and giving the Otters their best hitting percentage of the night (.320).

The Otters never even gave the Warriors a chance in set three, dashing out to a 10-4 lead on four attacking errors by CSUS and a two CSUMB aces (Fall, Lucas).  CSUMB extended its lead to 16-9 on a ace by junior #Alisha Thomas#. A kill by Riggs gave the Otters a 25-20 sweep over the Warriors.

“We had a balance3d attack and played consistent,” said head coach Jody Garry. “We had a great week of practice and the girls played confident.”

CSUMB continues its seven-game road trip tomorrow night as they take on Chico State at Acker Gym. First serve is at 7 p.m.
