One of the top back row players in Otter history during her playing career, Kaila Uota returns to the Otter bench for her first season as an assistant coach in 2025.
Uota started her coaching career with Central Coast VBC in 2020 and has been coaching with Sand City VBC since 2023. She also has worked supporting youth golf by working with Youth On Course for the past two years.
Despite a collegiate career abbreviated by COVID, ranked No. 23 on the Otter career digs lists and No. 21 in digs per set.
Uota, who served as an Otter team captain her senior season, graduated summa cum laude from CSUMB with a bachelor’s degree in in business marketing and a minor in Japanese language and culture. She was a 2-time member of the CCAA All-Academic Team and a 2-time winner of the D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award. She also served as a campus captain with The Hidden Opponent, supporting student-athlete mental health initiatives.
