Assistant Coach - Volleyball

Derrick Moore, Jr. enters his third year with the Otter volleyball program in 2025. This will be his first season as Courtney Materazzi’s top lieutenant after serving as a volunteer assistant in 2023, Derrick and part-time assistant for the 2024 season. He will continue bringing positive energy, leadership and a player-focused approach to the Otter sideline.

In addition to his role at CSUMB, Moore, who has been coaching since 2009, is a head coach with Sand City Volleyball Club. With more than 15 years of experience, he has worked with both boys and girls programs and is known for building competitive teams and helping athletes grow on and off the court. His coaching style emphasizes fundamentals, mental toughness, and strong team culture.

Moore holds a bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from San José State University, which supports his holistic, relationship-driven approach to coaching. Whether in the gym or in the community, Derrick is committed to mentoring athletes, growing the game, and creating lasting impact through sport.
