After four seasons as a volunteer with the Otters, Dane Holmgren elevated to the top assistant coach on Moe Melhart’s staff for the 2015 season. He’ll begin his fifth season at that post in 2019.
In addition to his work with the Otters, Holmgrenhas been one of the top coaches with the Carmel Beach VBC, having taken three teams to the Nor Cal Area Championships since 2011.
Voted the 2010 Coastal League Player of the Year at San Diego’s Santa Fe Christian High School, Holmgrenwas a four-year captain for the Eagles as the starting varsity setter. He was a three-time All-Costal League first-team selection.
In his senior year, Holmgrenled the team to a runner-up in the Division IV San Diego Section CIF finals and Division III California State Championship game at UC Irvine. He later was anmedto the Seaside VBC Hall of Fame after helping his 18s team to a 5th place finish at JOs in 2010.
Holmgren graduated from CSUMBwith a degree in kinesiology(emphasis in exercise science). He still competes on the CBVABeach doubles circuit.
