Andrew Clifton

Long Beach native Andrew Clifton has joined the Cal State Monterey Bay volleyball program as the top assistant coach to sixth-year head coach Jody Garry.
 
He will assist with all aspects of the program including academics, recruiting, on court training, team travel, and summer camps.
 
Clifton comes to CSUMB after serving as an assistant coach at Hope International University in 2010. He trained the setters and coordinated the offensive system. 

After more than 15 years of club coaching experience, Clifton started Roots Volleyball Club in the fall of 2008.  Under his direction, the club has quickly grew to four different age groups ranging from 14-to-18 year olds. Since 2008, eight seniors have gone on to play collegiate volleyball.
 
Clifton has also served as a lead coach in the nationally renowned Gold Medal Squared Camps founded by former national team coaches Carl McGown, Doug Beal and Marv Dunphy. He has worked with USA Volleyball since 2000. 

His high school coaching experience includes stints at Long Beach Jordan High School (2003-2008) and Woodbridge High School (1999-2002). In his first year at Woodbridge, he led the Warriors to the CIF final four.  In 2002, the team achieved a top ten national ranking. 
 
Clifton is a 2000 graduate of UC Irvine with a bachelor's degree in studio art. He was a two-year member of the Anteater volleyball team, leading UCI to a No. 10 national ranking under MPSF Coach of the Year Charlie Brande in 1999.
 
He resides in Marina with his wife, Lisa.
