One of the behind–the–scenes advantages student–athletes at Cal State Monterey Bay enjoy is access to a strength and conditioning coach of the caliber of John Kaupp.
Kaupp came to Otter Athletics after spending his previous three seasons working with the football, track and crew programs at Kansas State. Prior to joining the Wildcats, he was the head strength and conditioning coach at his alma mater, Cal Poly.
Kaupp began his collegiate athletics career as a defensive lineman and outside linebacker at Cal Poly. After completing an internship in strength and conditioning at Cal Poly, he moved on to a graduate assistantship at the University of Idaho. He spent two years as an assistant strength coach at San Diego State before returning to San Luis Obispo to take over for longtime mentor Chris Holder in 2006.
Kaupp earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture business management from Cal Poly and his master of science in recreation from Idaho.
