  • What type of dance does the team perform?
             We combine jazz technique with hip-hop  to create an entertaining performance style. 
  • Where does the team perform?
The Otter Dance Team is proud to have become a significant part of home games located in the Kelp Bed. Our performance season begins with volleyball games and continues with men and women’s basketball games. The team also performs at various events on campus and within the community. 
  • How often does the team practice?
The team will meet twice a week for conditioning, technique training, and choreography. Practices are typically 2-3 hours long. Team members can expect to meet several hours early on game days to practice and warm up. Practices will be determined by looking at the school schedules of the final team.
  • What are the other time commitments?
Aside from practices and games, the team will attend fundraisers, appearances, and volunteering events. Most members choose to meet outside of scheduled practices to work on choreography or technique.
  • How many people are on the team?
The team is usually comprised of eight to fourteen members.
  • Can men be on the team?
Absolutely! We invite men and women to audition.
  • Does the Otter Dance Team compete?
Yes, the Otter Dance Team does compete! Competition season is typically in April.
  • How can one prepare for auditions?
We highly recommend attending our open practices located in the Dance Studio in Bldg 84 F. Open practices will cover all technique and information needed for auditions. Open practices will be held at the end of the spring semester and at the beginning of the fall semester before auditions are held. Open practice dates will be posted on the Otter Dance Team Facebook page and on fliers throughout campus.
  • When are auditions?
Auditions are held once a year within the first few weeks of the fall semester. Audition dates will be posted on the Otter Dance Team Facebook page and on fliers throughout campus.
  • How much does it cost?
We try to keep costs at a minimum. Team members can expect to pay $300-$350 per year on uniforms, warm ups, shoes, and bags. Choreography from outside choreographers is purchased with the team account, which is replenished with fundraisers and donations.  If a member is unable to afford the fee, payment plans are available
