2013 – CSUMB: Otter fans aren’t sure what Julia Ashen will do for an encore from her phenomenal 2013 campaign, but they can’t wait to find out…became CSUMB’s first volleyball Capital One Academic All–American^® and the second first team AAA in CSUMB history…earned Daktronics All–West Region honors, the first Otter to do so since 2011…also named first team All–CCAA…named CCAA Player of the Week for Sept. 8 and Oct. 2, 2013…smashed her own CSUMB record (426) with 500 kills as a junior…is one of only two Otters (Rheann Fall) to reach 400 kills in a season twice in her Otter career…begins 2013 with 1,019 career kills (No. 3 all–time) and needs 436 to break Rheann Fall’s Otter record of 1,454…also enters 2014 ranked No. 10 in career digs (674) and career block assists (106)…posted 30 kills in wins over Dominican University (Sept. 7) and Cal State L.A. (Oct. 4), making her the only hitter ever to record 30 kills in a match twice as an Otter…reached double figures in kills in 24 of 28 matches, reaching 20+ kills 12 times and 25+ kills six times…posted 20 double–doubles including a pair of 20–20 performance against Chico State (25 kills, 31 digs) on Sept. 20 and at UC San Diego (22 kills, 21 digs) on Oct. 12).

2012 – CSUMB: Julia made the leap from player with potential to star in her sophomore season, setting the CSUMB season record with 426 kills…her 25 kills in a win over Alaska–Anchorage (Sept. 1) set the CSUMB standard for a four–set match…also set Otter records for attempts in a season (1,351) and a match (92 vs. UC San Diego on Nov. 17)…her 459 points rank No. 3 on the CSUMB season list and are more than any Otter not named Rheann Fall…reached double figures kills in 26 of 30 matches, reaching the 20–kill level four times…had 15 matches of 10 or more kills, including a career–high 18 in the season finale vs. UCSD (Nov. 17)…posted 10 double–doubles, including five of the final seven matches of 2012…served five of her 15 aces in a sweep of Cal State L.A. (Oct. 26), a mark that ranks No. 2 in the Otter books for aces in a three–set match…finished with 34 total blocks, matching her career high of three on three occasions.

2011 – CSUMB: Julia overcame early season injury troubles to start 10 of the final 18 matches in her debutante campaign…tallied a season–high 10 kills in a four–set victory against Cal State L.A. (Sept. 10)…registered eight kills and four blocks at Chico State (Sept. 30)…posted a season–best nine digs in the four–set victory over UC San Diego (Oct. 7). 

High School: Julia was the Tri–County Athletic League, Monterey County Herald and Salinas Californian Player of the Year as a senior in 2010…four–time Monterey Herald All–County pick…three–time Salinas Californian All–County…led her team to its first T–Cal Championship title in 13 year… broke the school record with 236 kills during her senior season, averaging 3.7 per game…finished the year with 29 aces, 49 blocks and 96 digs…recipient of the CCS Scholar Athlete Award Scholarship…played club volleyball for Main Beach Volleyball Club 18–1 Gold.

Personal: Julia is majoring in human communications at CSUMB…carries a spotless 4.0 GPA…named Capital One Academic All–District VIII in 2012, the only CCAA volleyball player so honored…has been a CCAA All–Academic selection in all three seasons as a Otter…valedictorian of her high school class with a 4.50 GPA…daughter of Bill and Jean Ashen…has a younger sister, Riley.
