AMARILLO, Texas —
Morgan Pittman closed the West Texas A&M Fall Invitational with a 2-under 69 Tuesday to lead Cal State Monterey Bay to a third-place team finish at Tascosa Golf Club's La Paloma Course.
"It was nice to get back into competition," CSUMB coach
Jim Ragan said. "It was disappointing not to finish off our strong start yesterday. It was great to get the round in today with the weather. We needed to learn how to play a complete tournament, start to finish, and today was a great learning experience. Morgan played great and came really close to a win while Khivi secured an impressive top-5 finish. We are looking forward to getting another shot to compete in a couple of weeks."
The Otters entered the final round atop the leaderboard at 2-over before posting a 13-over final round to finish the 54-hole tournament at 15-over. CSUMB finished behind tournament champion UT Dallas (-1) and host West Texas A&M (+12), while finishing 12 strokes ahead of fourth-place Cal State LA (+27).
Pittman delivered the Otters' round of the day, carding a 2-under 69 to move into third place individually at 4-under for the tournament. She made the turn at 3-under after recording birdies on Nos. 2, 4, 6 and 9, helping her climb one spot on the final leaderboard.
Khivi Kaur gave CSUMB a second top-five finisher, closing with a 3-over 74 to finish tied for fifth at 1-under. Kaur entered the final round in third place after playing the opening 36 holes at 4-under.
