Another Top 10 Finish For Lekkerkerk

Cal Baptist transfer finishes ninth in Colorado

MONTROSE, Colo. — Senior Derek Lekkerkerk (Twin Falls [Id.] HS) earned his second consecutive Top 10 finish, placing ninth overall at the San Juan Intercollegiate Tuesday at Bridges Golf and Country Club.

Lekkerkerk went 4-under over the final 18 holes — the third-lowest score of the day — to finish the 54-hole event at 207 (-6). He did that on the heels of his second place finish at the Wildcat Classic last week in Northern California.

Freshman Zach Easterling (Clovis West HS) joined Lekkerkerk in red numbers, placing 23rd at 1-under 212 after an even-par 71 Tuesday. Alex Cooke (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) and Ben Christian (Dexter [Mo.] Senior HS) posted CSUMB's other two scoring rounds at 2-over each.

Cooke finished tied for 37th at plus-2 for the tournament to join Lekkerkerk and Easterling in the top half of the 75 player field.

CSUMB placed eighth of 13 teams at 2-under for the tournament. Colorado Christian ran away from the pack to win the tournament at minus-35. CCU's Brady Mulder and Colorado Mesa's Henry Starr tied for first at 12-under.

The Otters will take two weeks off from competition before returning to action Oct. 11-13 when they host the annual Otter Invitational at Bayonet-Blackhorse.
