SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay will enter the final round of the Otter Invitational men's golf tournament two strokes off the lead after shooting 298 in Monday's second round at Bayoney Golf Course.

CCAA rival Menlo College went 1-over Monday to overtake CSUMB by two strokes on an day when scores rose up and down the leaderboard. In fact, the Oaks, who went 5-over in Sunday's first round, were the only team to improve on their score in the second round.

Menlo enters Tuesday at 6-over through 36 holes. After CSUMB (+8), Cal State San Bernardino and Chico State are tied for third at 16-over. Cal State San Marcos rounds at the Top 5 at plus-17.

Only three players are in red numbers through two rounds, with Chico's Ty Weaver atop the board at 3-under 141. Menlo teammates Cesare Pagliughi and Chase Yukawa are tied for second at 2-under. Sophomore Ben Christian (Dexter [Mo.] Senior HS) is three back at even par.

Otter senior Alex Cooke (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) also is in the hunt at 1-over with 18 left to play.

The Otter Invitational concludes with a final-round shotgun start Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
