SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay bounced back into the win column with a huge doubleheader sweep of Cal State San Bernardino Friday at the Otter Sports Complex, winning 9–6 and 6–0.

The wins improved CSUMB's record to 28–19 overall and 11–15 in CCAA play. San Bernardino dipped to 20–24 and 9–15.

Sophomore righty Kadence Nulick (Madera/Buchanan HS) earned victories in both games. She tossed 3 1/3 innings of 2-hit relief to take the opener, then threw a complete game shutout in the nightcap. All told, she allowed just one run and nine hits in 10 1/3 innings of work.

Junior Abreanna Alba (Watsonville HS/Cabrillo College) led the ever-potent CSUMB offense by finishing the day 4-for-7 with two homers — her ninth and 10th of the season — three runs and eight RBI.

Junior left fielder Aniya Lawson (Fairfield/Vanden HS) hit her first collegiate homer in Game 1 and added a 2-run triple in Game 2. Junior designated player Leah Madden (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) added three hits, three runs and her team-leading 14th stolen base.

Alba's 3-run homer in the first inning staked the Otters to an early lead in the opener. She added a 2-run shot in the third to extend the Otter lead to 5–2.

San Bernardino rallied for three runs in the fourth to tie the game at 5–5. But Lawson's 2-run blast to left capped a 4-run Otter fifth that gave CSUMB control.

Alba singled home a run in the bottom of the first of Game 2 to break the ice. With two runners on, Lawson tripled past a diving Ashley Legler in center and motored all the way home when the throw to third went well wide of the bag.

Alba capped the scoring with a 2-run knock in the fourth inning. That proved more than enough support for Nulick, who tossed her sixth complete game and third shutout of the season.

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN… Kadence Nulick coaxed a popup to second from Mia Escujuri, representing the potential tying run, for the final out.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN… Abreanna Alba's 2-run single made it 6–0 in fourth inning. San Bernardino got just two base runners over the final two innings.

DOUBLE THE FUN: The Otters turned a pair of double plays in the Game 2 win over San Bernardino on Friday. It's the first time they've done that since a win over Cal Poly Humboldt on Mar. 26, 2022.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB: Aniya Lawson hit her first collegiate homer in Friday's Game 1 win over San Bernardino. She is the fifth Otter to hit her first collegiate, over-the-fence home run during the 2026 season, joining Grace Boyd, Andrea DeJesus, Ellie Escalante and Faith Soriano.

DRIVING HOME HER POINT: With eight RBI in Friday's doubleheader sweep of San Bernardino, Abreanna Alba vaulted all the way up to the No. 9 spot on the Otter list for RBI in a single season. She needs six more to tie Jamie Moon (2012) for the No. 8 spot.

DOUBLE-DIGIT HOMERS: Abreanna Alba hit her ninth and 10th home runs of the season in Friday's doubleheader sweep of San Bernardino. She becomes the eighth different player in Otter history to hit 10 or more home runs in a single season.

TOP 10 NULICK: Sophomore Kadence Nulick earned her 16th and 17th career victories in Friday's sweep of San Bernardino. That moves her up to No. 10 all-time in the Otter record book. She needs two more wins to catch Angela Cabral for ninth place..

GAME 1 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Grace Boyd (1). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: Abreanna Alba 2 (9,10), Aniya Lawson (1).

GAME 2 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: None. TRIPLES: Aniya Lawson (2). HOME RUNS: None.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude the home portion of their 2026 schedule with a doubleheader against the Coyotes Saturday at 11 a.m. As always, if you can't make it to the games, you can catch all of the action on the FloSports Network (OtterAthletics.com/watch).
