Otters Keep Rolling, Sweep Day 2 In Tracy

CSUMB beats Biola, Western Oregon; win streak at eight

TRACY, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay softball kept rolling Saturday, with wins over Biola University (5–4, 8 inn.) and Western Oregon (11–4) on Day 2 of the NorCal Crossover at the Tracy Sports Complex.

CSUMB (14–4 overall) ran its winning streak to eight games with Saturday's victories.

Kaitlyn Le (San Ramon/California HS) was spectacular in relief for the second consecutive day to earn a gutsy, extra-innings win over Biola. She tossed 3 2/3 innings of 1-hit relief. She inherited a bases-load, 1-out situation in the fifth inning of a 3-3 tie and immediately got Lilliana Ga to hit into a 5-2-6 double play to get out of the jam.

She threw two perfect innings to get get the Otters to the extra frame, when sac flies by Abreanna Alba (Watsonville HS/Cabrillo College) and Andrea DeJesus (Morgan Hill/Live Oak HS) made her a winner.

The Western Oregon game got off to a wild start as the teams combined for 12 runs on just six hits in the first inning. Western Oregon claimed for of those runs in the top half of the first.

The Otters responded in a big way in the home half, however, with Nevaeh Martinez (Soquel HS) getting the ball rolling with a towering 3-run homer. Leah Madden (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) added a 2-run single and Kieley Ganaden (North Salinas HS) capped the rally with a 2-run double.

That proved to be enough support for sophomore Mikaya Griego (Diamond Bar HS), who was the victim of a pair of first-inning errors that led to all four runs she allowed being unearned. She scattered two hits of the the final six innings to earn her second victory of 2026.

THE BIOLA GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Abreanna Alba and Andrea DeJesus hit sac flies to give the Otters a 5–3 lead in the eighth inning.

THE WESTERN OREGON GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Kieley Ganaden's 2-run double capped the 8-run, first inning outburst by the Otter offense. Sophomore pitcher Mikaya Griego never allowed the potential tying run to reach the on-deck circle over the final six innings.

DOUBLE THE FUN… The Otters posted their seventh double-digit run game of the season in the 11–4 win over Western Oregon Saturday. Note the the program record of 10 was set in the CCAA Championship years of 2012 and 2017.

LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN: Abreanna Alba and Faith Soriano both raised their hitting streaks to seven games Saturday afternoon. Kieley Ganaden owns CSUMB's longest streak of the season (11 games) which ended in Game 1 Friday.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE…NEUTRAL? The Otters have enjoyed a neutral field advantage in one-plus seasons under Head Coach Emily Montañez. Including an 10–4 record so far this season, CSUMB is 17–6 at neutral sites under her leadership.

GAME 1 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Ellie Escalante (1). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: None.

GAME 2 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Kieley Ganaden (2), Abreanna Alba (2). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: Nevaeh Martinez (5).

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will conclude play at the NorCal Crossover Sunday when they face Simon Fraser University with first pitch scheduled for 9 a.m.
