TRACY, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay softball ran its winning streak to six games by sweeping Western Washington University, 3–0, and Saint Martin's University, 10–4, to open play at the NorCal Crossover Friday afternoon at the Tracy Sports Complex.
CSUMB (12–4 overall) got a complete game, 3-hit shutout from sophomore
Kadence Nulick (Madera/Buchanan HS) in the opener. An 8-run third inning powered the Otters to the win over Saint Martin's to close the day's action.
Nulick was in complete control in the win over WWU. She allowed just three hits with four strikeouts and no walks to earn her third win of 2026. Sophomore
Nevaeh Martinez (Soqeul HS) gave her all the support she would need with a 2-run homer in the first inning, her team-leading fourth of the season.
Nani Arreola's (Oaks Christian HS) RBI double in the fifth provided superfluous insurance.
SMU jumped to a 2–0 lead in the top of the first inning of CSUMB's second game, but a Martinez RBI single and an Arreola sac fly knotted the score in the home half of the inning.
The Otters put the game away with an 8-run third.
Malia Martin (Warren HS/El Camino College) got things started with a pinch-hit, 2-run triple.
Abreanna Alba (Watsonville HS/Cabrillo College) added a 2-run blast in the frame.
That proved to be more than enough to lift freshman
Jordan Knutson (Medford, Ore./South Medford HS) to her fifth consecutive win to open her collegiate career.
THE WESTERN WASHINGTON GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Nani Arreola doubled home Emma Campos to extend the Otter lead to 3–0 in the fifth inning. Western never again brought the potential tying run to the plate.
THE SAINT MARTIN'S GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Faith Soriano's sac fly scored Emma Sosa to cap an 8-run Otter third, making the score 10–2 in favor of CSUMB.
DOUBLE THE FUN… The Otters posted their sixth double-digit run game of the season in the 10–4, Game 1 win over Saint Martin's Friday. That mark already is tied for No. 5 on the Otter list for double-digit run games in a season. The program record of 10 was set in the CCAA Championship years of 2012 and 2017.
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST END: Kieley Ganaden saw her career-best 11-game hitting streak end in the win over Western Washington. She promptly started a new streak in the win over Saint Martin's. Ganaden has hit safely in 14 of CSUMB's 16 games to start the season.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE…NEUTRAL? The Otters have enjoyed a neutral field advantage in one-plus seasons under Head Coach Emily Montañez. Including an 8–4 record so far this season, CSUMB is 15–6 at neutral sites under her leadership.
GAME 1 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Catherine Calzada (3), Nani Arreola (4). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: Nevaeh Martinez (4).
GAME 2 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: None. TRIPLES: Malia Martin (1). HOME RUNS: Abreanna Alba (2).
THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will continue play at the NorCal Crossover Saturday with games against Biola University (9:30 a.m.) and Western Oregon (2:30 p.m.).
GO OTTERS!
