Otters Debut At No. 7 In Regional Rankings

CSUMB in playoff position with two weeks remaining

SEASIDE, Calif. — The NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Committee released its first regional rankings in advance of the 2026 NCAA Tournament, placing Cal State Monterey Bay in postseason position at No. 7 of 10 ranked teams.

The top eight teams in the final rankings (to be released Mar. 8) will advance to the NCAA's field of 64, with the West Regional slated to begin Mar. 13 at a site to be determined.

Wednesday's announcement marks the second time CSUMB has earned a spot in the Top 10. The Otters we're ranked as high as No. 6 in the COVID-shortened 2021-22 season before just missing out on an NCAA Tournament berth.

The Otters (16–10 overall) finish their regular season schedule Thursday and Saturday at Cal Poly Humboldt and Chico State. The CCAA Tournament follows next week, with the winner of that event earning an automatic bid to the NCAA West Regional. Winners of the Great Northwest and PacWest Conference tournaments also will punch their tickets to the big dance. The NCAA selection committee will add five at-large teams to the mix to complete the 8-team field.

The Committee will release one more in-season ranking on Mar. 4. The final rankings — and NCAA Tournament Field — will be announced on the official NCAA Division II Selection Show on Sunday, Mar. 8.
