SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay water polo opened its Western Water Polo Association schedule with a dominating 15–5 victory over UC Merced Saturday in the Otter Tank.

Three Otters recorded hat tricks in the win, led by sophomore Jerzie Jaurigue-Mora's (Yucaipa HS) first collegiate hatty. Freshman Riley Becker (Oaks Christian HS) and junior Nalani Galindo (Poway HS/Miramar College) added hat tricks of their own.

Emma Sosa (Tustin/Foothills HS) and Olivia Gutierrez (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) each scored twice in an 8–0, game-opening onslaught that gave CSUMB early control. By late in the third period the lead had expanded to 13–1.

Ximena Pichon (Clovis HS) led five Otter passes with multiple assists by dishing three helpers. Stella Martin (Clovis West HS), who broke the CSUMB career assist record the previous week, led a quartet of Otters who passed two assists versus the Bobcats.

Sophomore Marissa White (Union City/Mission San Jose HS) moved up to No. 4 on the Otter career wins list with her 16th victory. She and fellow sophomore Kendra Weaver (Valley Center HS) each made six saves to backstop the defense allowing five or fewer goals for the second time this season.

The Otters will hit the road for the next three weeks, beginning with a rematch at No. 16 San Jose State Sunday at the Spartans' SRAC Pool.
