SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team made its home finale a game for the record books, tying the school NCAA Division II record for victories with 16 by dispatching San Francisco State, 98–75, Saturday in The Kelp Bed.

With the win, CSUMB (16–10, 11–9 CCAA) moved into a tie for third place in the conference standings. Unofficially, they would clinch third place with wins in their final two games next week at Cal Poly Humboldt and Chico State.

SFSU scored the first basket of the game, but it was all Otters after that. It took just over five minutes for CSUMB to open its first double-digit lead. The lead expanded to 25 by halftime, 58–32. The Otters led by as many as 37 midway through the second before they coasted to the finish line.

Head Coach Isaac Williams got the opportunity to play all 12 healthy players for the first time this season. Eleven different players wrote their names on the score sheet, including a season-high six in double figures.

Jaden Tengan (Sacramento/Santa Clarita Christian) and Michael Mora (Palo Alto/Univ. of Vermont) led the way as per usual with 15 and 14 points respectively. Mezziah Oakman (Columbia, S.C./UCSB) recorded his team-leading seventh double-double with 11 points, a career-high 15 rebounds as well as a career-high four blocks.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Using the Bill James safe lead formula, the game was statistically over when Michael Mora's driving layup extended the Otter lead to 71–37 with 14:50 to play.

ONE FOR THE BOOKS: Saturday's 98–75 win over San Francisco State was CSUMB's 16th of the season, tying the NCAA Division II program record of 16 set during the 2008-09 campaign. The 16 regular season wins are a program record at the NCAA Division II level. The Otters twice previous won 14 regular season games (2008-09 and 2015-16).

MORA, TENGAN UP TO 10TH, 11TH ON SEASON SCORING LIST: Michael Mora and Jaden Tengan moved up to No. 10 and No. 11 on the Otter single-season scoring list following Saturday's win over San Francisco State with 458 and 455 points respectively. Jay Demaestri's 2005-06 season is at No. 9 (480). With Devoughn Lamont scoring a (then) school record 580 points, 2005-06 is the only season in the record book featuring two Top 10 scorers.

OAKMAN ON THE REBOUND: Mezziah Oakman pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds in Saturday's win over San Francisco State, including 11 in the first half. The last Otter with 15 or more rebounds in a game was Charles Johnston, who grabbed 16 against Chico State on Feb. 15, 2024.

MEZZIAH FROM THE BLOCK: Mezziah Oakman set a career high with four blocks in Saturday's win over San Francisco State. He previously had blocked three shots in wins over Cal State L.A. (Jan. 17) and Cal State San Marcos (Dec. 3).

TRIPLE-DOUBLE DIGITS: Once again, at least three Otters scored in double digits Saturday against San Francisco State. This time, the honors went to: Jaden Tengan (15), Michael Mora (14), Joey Bilello (11), Miki Gacic (11), Mezziah Oakman (11) and Ashton Reese (11). It marked the 28th consecutive game in which at least three Otters scored in double figures.

A SIX PACK OF DOUBLE DIGITS: Saturday's win over San Francisco State marked the second time this season that the Otters placed six scorers in double figures. The last time it happened also came against San Francisco State (Jan. 22)

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Jaden Tengan 15; REBOUNDS: Mezziah Oakman 15; ASSISTS: Miki Gacic 6; BLOCKS: Mezziah Oakman 4; STEALS: Ariya Briscoe/Michael Mora 2.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… CSUMB hits the road for its final two regular season games, starting with a huge rematch against Cal Poly Humboldt in Arcata Thursday night. They'll tip-off at 7:30 p.m. as the nightcap of doubleheader action with the Otter women.
