Otters Open Home Schedule In Style

CSUMB sweeps Dominican, 6-1 and 9-2

Story Links

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay softball opened the home portion of its 2026 schedule in grand style, sweeping Dominican University 6–1 and 9–2 Wednesday at the Otter Sports Complex.

In the opener, freshman Jordan Knutson (Medford, Ore./S. Medford HS) scattered six hits in a complete-game effort to improve to 3–0. Sophomore Kaitlyn Le (San Ramon/California HS) pitcher four innings of near spotless relief in the nightcap, also improving to 3–0.

CSUMB (8–4 overall) scored in each of the first four innings of Game 1 to take control quickly. RBI singles by Andrea DeJesus Live Oak HS/West Valley College) and Abreanna Alba (Watsonville HS/Cabrillo College) highlighted the early surge.

Knutson walked four batters and needed to pitch out of a few jams, stranding 10 Penguins in the game. Her offense pounded out 10 hits but also left nine runners aboard.

Sophomore ace Kadence Nulick (Madera/Buchanan HS) continued to work back from a preseason injury by allowing two runs over three innings. Her hitters staked her to an early lead when Nevaeh Martinez (Soquel HS) led off the second with a solo homer and Kieley Ganaden (North Salinas HS) capped it with a bases-loaded triple.

The pitching star in this one, however, was Le. She took the circle with runners on second and third and no outs in the fourth inning and the Otters holding a 4–2 lead. All she did was coax a short fly ball, an infield pop fly and a ground out to Houdini the Otters out of the jam.

Her offense rewarded her with a 4-run bottom half of the inning that include both Ganaden and Leah Madden (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) hustling home on a bases-loaded grounder to first base.

Le was golden from there, allowing just a 2-out single in the sixth to spoil an other perfect performance.

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN… Kellisa Lee grounded out with a pair of Penguins on base in the fifth inning. Jordan Knutson then retired the final six Penguins in order to end the game.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN… Kaitlyn Le escaped a two-on, no-out jam out of the pen in the fourth inning. The Otters added a 4-spot in the home half of the inning to take an 8–2 lead and Dominican managed just one more baserunner the rest of the way.

GANADEN IS RED HOT: Kieley Ganaden ran her current hitting streak to nine games by going 2-for-3 with four RBI in Wednesday's nightcap. She's now up to fourth in the CCAA in hitting with a team-best .475 batting average. She also leads the CCAA with four triples.

MADDEN IS HOT ON HER HEELS: Junior Leah Madden finished the doubleheader 3-for-6 to run her hitting streak to seven games. She's now hitting .448 with team highs of 14 runs and four steals.

GAME 1 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Faith Soriano (1). TRIPLES: Jaedyn White (1). HOME RUNS: None.

GAME 2 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: None. TRIPLES: Kieley Ganaden (4). HOME RUNS: Nevaeh Martinez (3).

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will close their brief 4-game homestand Friday when the welcome soon-to-be CCAA member Menlo College for a nonconference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
